Sega Genesis - Alisia Dragoon Review

Alisia Dragoon is a fantasy platform action game with mythical monsters and the like. It does have a technological side to it though with floating platforms and machines.

Gameplay 7/10
In Alisia Dragoon you play Alisia sent to destroy an evil person (like most other games). Although you are a powerful warrior with a lightning attack you also have four creatures to help you, each unique in its own way. The first, a dragon which fires out fireballs, the second a griffin which has anenergy attack which destroys everyone, the third a lizard with a boomerangattack and finally a living fireball which absorbs hits from behind.
Although quite an innovative idea for the time and with Alisia's lightining attack which can attack several enemies at a time, the gameplay is actually quite good.
But after playing for a while it becomes apparent that your four creatures are more of a hindrance then help except at specific places. They hover behind you and are inclined to take damage from enemies approaching from infront if you turn too suddenly. The creatures can actually level up to become more powerful but stop at level 3, unable to level up further which I think is a shame really.

Graphics 2.5/5
Alisia Dragoon's graphics are not worth mentioning. They are average and the explosions are not even realistic. They are some what cartoonish however which is alright I guess.

Sound & Music 3/5
Again this is not worth mentioning. Sound is very, very basic and the music mediocre.

Level design 4/5
Although the sound and graphics is not ground breaking the level design is quite challenging with enemies swarming at you from every where, you have to be careful or risk being killed.
Perhaps the only flaw is the cave-levels which are too crowded to manoeuvre properly.

Longevity or Replayibility 3/5
I believe that you would probably play Alisia Dragoon for quite a long while because of the difficulty and the cool levels you get to see. But once you complete it, I doubt you would want to play it over again.
