Super Nintendo - Megaman X Review

Overview

Megaman X is a new series about Megaman. It is not known whether Megaman from the Megaman series is related to Megaman X from the Megaman X series. It is hinted at at times and some sources say yes while others say no. I personally believe no because Megaman X is a darker series where friends die and allies become bad where as Megaman seems a bit happier. So far only one character, Dr. Light is seen in both series and no mention of Megaman's pal Rush. So X is probably set in an alternate Universe with possibly similar characters in the past. This is not Megaman 10 by the way (at least I do not think so, Capcom may release some Megaman game which bridges Megaman and Megaman X together

Gameplay: 8/10
Megaman X's handling is an improvement over Megaman's, for one thing he can cling to walls and use his jets to boost himself slowly upwards. Also he has an accelerator device which boosts him for a short period of time (you have to find it in this game but in the sequels he already has it) and which makes him jump higher and longer. Once again the only bad things are that he can not shoot anywhere but in front and the fact that his jump is still to small.

Graphics: 5/5
Like all Megaman and Megaman X games on the SNES Megaman X is a prime example of good animation when dealing with limited resources. The animation looks great.

Sound & music: 5/5
The songs in Megaman X are cool and futuristic and tense. I love hearing it although it gets repetitive at times.

Game Design: 1/5
Once again, Capcom has made and Ultra-hard game. I really hate having to keep dying fighting through a level, you have to be a real whiz to be able to finish the game and unlock all its secrets. Some are easy to see but difficult to get while others are difficult to get but easy if you know where to get it.

Longevity or Replayability: 1.5/5
Frankly, patience is a great virtue when it comes to Megaman X. Just hang in there and get some game tips if possible. I doubt you would replay it once you are finish.

For: Improved gameplay over Megaman, easy controls, good graphics of enemies and good guy and cool music.

Against: Levels too hard, difficult to complete, hard to get secrets, frustrating at the end.

Alright! Although someone please tell me what's happening...

Our hero is reduced to an insignificant line on the screen reminescient of "snake".

A really cool screenshot of megaman's status...

Don't bother with this code, it doesn't give you much.
