Beginner's Guide and Help

Here's some help on what emulators and Rom's are about.

Emulators
Emulators are programs written by people to be used to run Rom's.

They are programmed to emulate or copy game consoles usually.

This allows games like Nintendo games to be run on a computer.

Roms
However, unless you have a special machine or hardware which allows you to use the appropriate cartridges, you cannot play the games on the computer. Here is where Rom's come in. Rom's stand for Read Only Memory and they contain the programme information for a game in this case. To run a Rom you simply run the appropriate emulator and ask the emulator to load the Rom. Of course, you must run a Nintendo Rom on a Nintendo Emulator.

Each emulator is obviously different being programmed by different people. It is a very good idea to read the readme files or instructions that usually come with it.

To download a file (be it a Rom or emulator) simply click the appropriate link on the web site. Usually the file will start to download after a while. If there is any trouble you may want to check your modem connection to your server or see if perhaps the web site's server is down.

Note: you will have to unzip the file with an unzip program after you've

downloaded it.

Sometimes the computer will ask you where you should save the zip file you are downloading. In this case make sure you remember where you asked the computer to place the file.

Once the download is complete, unzip the file with an unzip program like winzip and then you are ready to roll!

Legal agreements
Legally speaking, you must own the cartridge of a Rom before you download it. If not, you must delete the Rom after 24 hours.
Most emulator programs are freeware and can be used by anyone at no cost. However, you must obey any terms and clauses of the legal agreement written by the programmer.

If you disagree with any of the terms, delete the emulator immediately.

These are the most important legal terms and clauses. Please consult the legal section in this web site.

Problems
You may encounter problems so it's best to read the readme files or

instructions. Sometimes the computer you are using is just does not much the requirements of the emulator program. At other times the Rom you are using can not be run by the emulator you are using. In this case you may have to download a different Rom by another programmer or a newer version of the emulator you are using.

Summary and important points
1) Emulators are different so always read instructions

2) Rom's of a specific machine can only be run by an Emulator of that specific machine. You cannot run a Rom which uses a different machine.

3) You need a unzip program to unzip the files you download

4) Some Rom's do not work with an emulator even though the emulator

emulates the Rom's machine. You may have to get another emulator or new version of the emulator.

5) You must delete any Rom's you have downloaded in 24 hours unless you own the appropriate cartridge.
