Alex Kidd in Miracle World Platform: Sega Master System Producer: Sega Year: 1986 Runs on: Meka, Brsms, Massage Genre: Action
Overview Alex Kidd in Miracle World was one of Sega's most popular games at the time
of the Sega Master System. It was so popular in fact, that it was built into every single Sega Master System 2 machine, which meant no cartridge was needed. You just turn you Sega Master System 2 on and up comes Alex Kidd!
Storyline Alex Kidd is about a prince who is a kid called Alex Kidd. His people of the nation "Radaxian" has been turned into stone by the bad man Janken the Great who has also captured the Princess of Radaxian. Alex Kidd now must venture through Miracle World, with his martial arts skills to find Janken the Great, stop him, rescue the Princess and restore his people of Radaxian who were turned into stone back to normal. However Alex Kidd's father is missing...
Gameplay The objective of the game is to make it to the other side of the level to the level's exit. Along each level, you try to collect as much money possible. The gameplay is quite general at first, but soon you find more fun as you progress, because Alex Kidd can travel by land, sea and air! Alex Kidd can use his big fist for punching bricks and monsters, and jump extremely high. He can swim when he enter's the water. Also to help him along the way, he can stop by at the local stores to buy, motorbikes; for speed and power, or helicopters to power his way across the air! And finally, Alex Kidd can travel buy speedboat on a level! All is fun, then made even more fun when you can buy or punch open bricks to get special items such as rings that shoot and shields. When you reaches big bosses, instead of fighting them, you have janken matches, then you fight! Interesting. 9 out of 10
Graphics This game is so colourful! All colours are used appropriately. The grass is green, sea and air are blue. There's pretty graphics galore all over the screen. Even nice little sparkles in water levels. 5 out of 5
Sound The music is awesome! The moment you enter the startup screen, you're greeted with the wonderful and delightful Alex Kidd theme. The underwater tune is fantastic! The sound effects are very funny and suits the excellent music. 5 out of 5
Game Design Every level is greatly varied, especially on the last level inside the castle, where you have to figure out ways of making it to the end and choice of multiple paths. And levels where you use motorbikes, helicopters and speedboats are maybe too chalenging, but when you mess up, you can still carry on using Alex Kidd on land or sea. 4.5 out of 5
Replayability The game is challenging, but with it being so long and without a save system, you'll find yourself back to square 1, level 1 after your gameovers. It would have been perfect to have level passwords. A real problem here is that one touch of a monster, then you die. At least you don't go back to square one anyway! 3.5 out of 5
Scoring Summary Gameplay: 9 out of 10 Graphics: 5 out of 5 Sound and Music: 5 out of 5 Game Design: 4.5 out of 5 Replayability: 3.5 out of 5 Total: 27 out of 30 Overall: 90%
